Innovation and Italian Traditions Intertwine at Jean Calogero Park in Aci Castello

In the lush province of Catania, the “Jean Calogero” park in Cannizzaro, Aci Castello, pays homage to the famous local painter within a natural, relaxing setting. Opened in March 2023, the park now features a children’s playground, a fitness area, and a dog relaxation zone. Driven by Mayor Dr. Carmelo Scandurra and in collaboration with our local partner, 3S Elettronica, the park is illuminated by innovative solar streetlights from Sunna Design. These installations transform the site at night, combining aesthetics and technology for sustainable lighting without electricity bills.

Connected and Resilient Solar Streetlights

For the development of the Cannizzaro neighborhood park, Sunna Design’s iSSL Maxi Area solar streetlights were chosen for their excellent fit for this type of project and their simple and cost-effective installation. Equipped with advanced technologies, including motion detectors, these devices adjust light intensity based on human presence. This minimizes light pollution and respects the local environment and biodiversity while extending battery life and optimizing energy efficiency.

Innovative Technology for Sustainable Solar Lighting

Today, these technological innovations are transforming the park’s nighttime experience, making it a safe and welcoming place for everyone, children and adults alike. Thanks to the free solar energy, the municipality can now illuminate its park and the children’s playground without paying any electricity bills. Additionally, the durability of Sunna Design products, guaranteed for six years, allows the municipality to look to the future with confidence. This solar lighting project illustrates how a municipality’s eco-friendly initiatives can harmoniously coexist with cultural and artistic heritage while respecting budgets. It paves the way for further transformations in public space management.
