In Benin, the strategic road linking Ouedo to Tori-Bossito has undergone a major transformation, symbolizing national infrastructure development. The Colas Group, the project’s lead contractor, supervised the construction and paving of the road, while a local partner installed 551 solar streetlights from the EverGen range. Today, these streetlights provide sustainable and secure lighting across the 15.5 km of this essential route.

The development and paving of the Ouedo-Tori-Bossito road are part of the Government Action Plan (PAG 2021-2026) initiated by President Patrice Talon. This ambitious program includes 21 major road projects to improve mobility and connectivity between cities. In addition to modernizing strategic routes like Ouedo-Tori and fostering economic growth, the PAG also focuses on energy transition and Benin’s energy independence.
The EverGen range from Sunna Design, uniquely designed for local conditions, has brought a new level of performance to solar lighting along the 15.5 km of this strategic road. A total of 551 solar streetlights were installed, split between dual models (with two lanterns) and single models (with one lantern), according to specific needs. The dual models, covering high-traffic areas, provide comprehensive light coverage, while the single models offer adequate lighting in narrower sections, such as roundabouts.
The lanterns, positioned 7 meters high, are powered by integrated solar panels, ensuring autonomous and reliable lighting even in challenging weather conditions. With 40W LED modules, they deliver powerful light ideally suited to the road, significantly enhancing safety and visibility for users. These streetlights require little maintenance, reducing long-term costs and ensuring continuous, reliable lighting for the community.
With this new infrastructure, the city of Tori-Bossito has seen its value increase, attracting new businesses. Residents have expressed satisfaction with this transformation, which improves their quality of life while creating new economic opportunities. Solar lighting, far more than a symbol of modernity, has become a development driver for the entire region. This project is a technological leap and a decisive step for Benin, combining sustainable energy transition with enhanced road safety.
