Sunna Design: Measuring and Acting to Reduce Our Carbon Footprint

Since our creation, reducing environmental impact has been at the heart of our mission. We strive to deliver innovative, autonomous, and environmentally friendly solar lighting solutions daily. Conducting our carbon footprint assessment was crucial in strengthening this commitment: it allows us to identify our key environmental aspects (KEAs) and take responsible actions to reduce our impact.

What is a Carbon Footprint?

A carbon footprint is an essential tool for measuring CO₂ emissions generated by our activities. It includes:

  • Direct emissions (Scopes 1 and 2): Generated from on-site operational activities, such as energy consumption and emissions from our facilities.
  • Indirect emissions (Scope 3): Produced across our entire value chain, including our suppliers, the transportation of components, and the use of our products.

The analysis of our carbon footprint, conducted with the support of Greenbirdie, provided us with a comprehensive view of our impact at every stage of our operations. This insight helps us pinpoint areas where we can take concrete action to reduce emissions.

The Results of Our Carbon Footprint

For the analyzed year, our emissions amounted to 5,963 tons of CO₂ equivalent (tCO₂eq). These emissions are broken down as follows:

  • 99% of emissions come from Scope 3, mainly due to procuring components needed for our products and their transportation.
  • Scopes 1 and 2, representing direct emissions, are minimal thanks to our efforts to reduce the energy impact of our internal operations.

These results highlight the importance of working with suppliers committed to responsible practices and promoting sustainable manufacturing and transportation processes. We are committed to collaborating to minimize our carbon footprint as much as possible.

Taking Action for a Positive Impact

Reducing our CO₂ emissions is an ambitious goal that requires continuous improvement. At Sunna Design, we are committed to:

  • Optimizing our product designs to minimize using materials with high carbon footprints.
  • Partnering with local stakeholders to reduce transportation distances and strengthen regional economic ecosystems.
  • Enhancing the durability and recyclability of our products, ensuring a more virtuous lifecycle.

Our carbon footprint is more than just a measurement; it is a tool for action and transformation. By understanding our impact, we can effectively minimize it and actively contribute to the ecological transition.
