The Directorate General of Traffic of the Sultanate of Oman is responsible for investigations on road traffic accidents, the installation of road signs and the implementation of efficient lighting systems within parking lots and main roads in the country.
As part of a large study conducted by the Directorate General of Traffic of Oman on parking lighting options in Muscat, the organization decided to run a pilot project.
The objective of this project was to determine the most adequate solutions to deliver efficient solar lighting service in specific areas of the country.
Initially, streetlights from other providers, equipped with lead and lithium batteries were chosen for the test phase.
However, these were no longer performing when temperatures were reaching high levels during the hottest months in the region.
The only battery technology resistant to such temperatures is NiMH (nickel-metal hybrid) which equips the batteries of Sunna Design devices.
Different models were therefore selected and installed in the target areas to replace previous products and rehabilitate this pilot project.
Sunna’s solar streetlights successfully resisted to extreme temperatures, which satisfied local project stakeholders, who are now looking to replicate this project on a wider scale.
