In one of the most remote and strategic areas of Kuwait, a colossal project has come to life. Over 362 EverGen solar streetlights have been deployed on Boubyan Island by our local partner Clenergy to secure a new expressway connecting the port to the rest of the island. Led by the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, this project redefines public lighting as an infrastructure that combines total autonomy, high performance, and intelligent remote management.
Boubyan island – KUWAIT
Boubyan is unlike any other region. Located at the crossroads of the Iranian and Iraqi borders, the island holds significant strategic importance. However, its geographic position presents many challenges: isolation, lack of electrical infrastructure, and a particularly harsh environment. Summer temperatures often exceed 50°C, desert dust covers everything, and even the slightest technical failure can have immediate safety consequences.
Building this road was a major challenge. Connecting to the electrical grid was impossible—but instead of being a barrier, it became an opportunity. The choice fell on Sunna Design’s advanced solar technologies, capable of operating autonomously and reliably, even under Boubyan Island’s extreme conditions.
A total of 362 state-of-the-art solar lighting systems were deployed across several kilometers, transforming the road into a safe and connected route. Each installed streetlight is more than just a source of light—it’s a high-tech unit. Sunna Design’s EverGen range stands out for its durability and ability to maintain high-power lighting even in the most challenging conditions.
This performance is rooted in innovative design and cutting-edge technology. Sunna Design’s solar equipment is built to last. With integrated photovoltaic modules, high-performance LEDs, and advanced energy management technology, each installation guarantees optimal energy efficiency without compromise.
Lighting adjusts automatically based on the battery’s available energy, thanks to the Sunnacore intelligent management system. The result: optimal visibility under any circumstances—crucial for this expressway used by logistics vehicles and local teams.
To ensure year-round reliability, the streetlights are equipped with ultra-resistant NiMH batteries, capable of operating in extreme temperatures from -40°C to +85°C. This durability is essential for projects across the Middle East and in the most demanding environments.
To optimize infrastructure management, Sunna Design equipped some EverGen units with modems, allowing the streetlights to be grouped into connected clusters managed via the SunnaCloud platform. This approach streamlines data collection, avoiding the complexity of managing individual data points.
With this supervision tool, technical managers can access comprehensive data on the entire lighting network from anywhere. Remote diagnostics, equipment geolocation, operational status, and alerts in case of malfunctions—everything is designed for proactive and efficient management. This advanced monitoring also allows for scheduling preventive maintenance, reducing the risk of outages and associated costs.
With this achievement, Boubyan Island becomes much more than just a strategic territory. The newly secured expressway now serves as a key driver for economic development. The island’s port, a hub for regional trade, benefits from improved safety and increased logistical capacity.
This large-scale project reflects Kuwait’s commitment to investing in sustainable and resilient infrastructure capable of addressing future energy and security challenges. For Sunna Design, this installation is proof that its solutions can transform even the most demanding regions into models of technological innovation. A road illuminated by hundreds of EverGen units is a road where safety, autonomy, and economic growth intersect.
