Nestled about thirty kilometers from Durban on the East Coast of South Africa, the Salta Sibaya residential complex represents a new chapter in luxury urban planning. This large-scale real estate project stands out for its elegant architecture and environmental commitment. In collaboration with our local partner Rubicon, 110 of SUNNA DESIGN’s solar lighting solutions now illuminate the complex’s private roads, roundabouts, and pedestrian paths. This achievement demonstrates our ability to provide autonomous solar lighting solutions that meet the needs of high-end residential projects, thus paving the way for a new era in sustainable urban planning.
Salta Sibaya Estate – South Africa
The Salta Sibaya project required a customized approach to meet its lighting needs. The specifications called for economical, low-energy, and low-carbon lighting solutions that were also aesthetically pleasing to harmonize with the sophisticated and refined design of the residential infrastructure. Additionally, a lighting system suitable for various areas of the complex was needed, and Sunna Design’s iSSL range was selected for its versatility. These all-in-one solar streetlights, easy to install in less than 10 minutes, are ideal for a project of this scale.
Chosen for its 6-year product warranty (a guarantee of quality and durability) and the optimal luminous efficiency of the streetlights, 29 iSSL Maxi Road and 81 iSSL Maxi 4 solar streetlights were installed, all equipped with motion detection technology. This feature offers several advantages: it maximizes energy efficiency by illuminating pathways only when people or vehicles are present, and it enhances the safety of residents. Reducing energy waste and carbon emissions also extends the lifespan of the battery and streetlight.
The products for this project were specifically selected for their simple and quick installation, without complications, thus reducing initial costs and long-term maintenance. The all-in-one approach of these devices illustrates Sunna Design’s commitment to aesthetic and practical solutions, meeting the expectations of Salta Sibaya’s real estate developers.
Within the first week, the Salta Sibaya complex recorded sales amounting to one billion rand, making it one of the fastest-selling developments in the country. This commercial success is primarily attributed to the choice of solar lighting provided by Sunna Design, which ensured remarkable energy efficiency and sustainability. The project was also awarded the Best Mixed-Use Development at the African Property Awards for 2022-2023, highlighting the project’s excellence and innovation.
This case study demonstrates how advanced lighting solutions, combined with strategic planning and implementation, can transform a real estate development into a model of sustainability and innovation. Sunna Design’s commitment to solar technology and reducing the carbon footprint continues to redefine the future of lighting in the real estate sector.
